FAQ

  • Is alcohol addiction curable?

    Alcohol addiction is treatable, but it is difficult to completely cure it. For many people, alcohol addiction is a chronic disease that requires long-term treatment and support to help maintain long-term sobriety.
    Alcohol addiction is caused by changes in the brain that affect the way a person responds to alcohol and their ability to make informed decisions about alcohol consumption. These changes in the brain can be long-lasting, so for many people, alcohol addiction is chronic.
    However, alcohol addiction can be successfully managed through various forms of treatment, including drug therapy, psychotherapy, social support, and self-help programs. This can help a person regain control of their life and maintain a long period of sobriety.

  • Ludomania (gaming addiction, gambling) - is it for life?

    Ludomania, or gambling addiction, is a chronic disease, and for many people it can be lifelong. However, this does not mean that there are no ways to treat this disease and maintain a long period of sobriety.
    Like many other addictions, gambling addiction can have serious health, relationship and financial consequences. A person may spend excessive amounts of time and money on slot machines, video games, Internet gambling, and other forms of gambling.
    A variety of treatments can be used to successfully treat gambling addiction, including psychotherapy, drug therapy, social support, and self-help programs. In addition, it is important to follow a healthy lifestyle such as a healthy diet, exercise and a healthy mind.

  • Do you provide preventive medical, psychological and psychotherapeutic support to patients and clients in order to prevent relapse (return of the disease)?

    Preventive medical, psychological and psychotherapeutic support is an important component in the treatment of patients and clients with addictions. The purpose of such support is to prevent relapse (return of the disease) and ensure proper physical and mental health.
    Medical support aims to ensure the physical health of the patient and the client. May include treatment of physical complications in dependent individuals, as well as health monitoring and recommendations for physical activity, healthy lifestyles, and proper nutrition.
    Psychological support consists of psychoeducation, psychotherapy and psychiatric treatment aimed at reducing the level of stress and anxiety, improving mood and maintaining motivation for a healthy lifestyle. Psychological support may include individual counseling, group sessions, and family therapy.
    Psychotherapeutic support consists of various methods and approaches aimed at reducing the risk of addiction relapse and maintaining the positive changes that have been achieved in the treatment process.
    An important component of successful addiction treatment is continuous and systematic prevention of one's physical and mental health.

“It is not where we were that counts, but where we are going.”

A short questionnaire to identify possible alcohol addiction

1. Have you ever decided to cut back on drinking?
2. Did your loved ones annoy you by criticizing you for drinking?
3. Did you feel very bad physically after drinking, and did you feel guilty about drinking?
4. Have you used alcohol to improve well-being after yesterday's drinking, calm your nerves, or get rid of a headache?

Even one "yes" answer to the above questions indicates suspicion of alcohol addiction. Positive answers to all four questions can be considered as existing alcohol addiction.

Diagnostic criteria for gambling addiction according to DSM-5

1. Persistent and recurrent urge to gamble that causes clinically significant impairment, expressed by at least four symptoms present in the gambler over a 12-month period;
2. The need to increase the size of bets in order to achieve the desired intensity of sensations;
3. Anxiety and irritation when trying to reduce the game time or leave the game;
4. Repeated but unsuccessful attempts to control one's own passion for the game, to reduce the time of the game or to quit playing;
5. Preoccupation with the game (e.g., constantly going back in the mind to past gaming experiences, thinking about how to get an advantage in the game or planning the next opportunity to play, thinking of a way to find funds to play).
6. Many people prone to games feel depressed (feelings of helplessness, guilt, anxiety, depression);
7. Returning a few days after a loss in order to win back (return lost);
8. Lying in order to hide the level of involvement in the game;
9. Gambling endangers relationships with loved ones, work, studies or career prospects.
